Tanker hit near Strait of Hormuz as attacks on shipping continue
At least 18 attacks on ships have been reported in the area since early October, raising fresh worries for oil supplies.
An oil tanker was struck by a projectile while leaving the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre reported. The crew was said to be safe. Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed the attack, its third on a ship within two days.
At least 18 attacks on vessels have taken place in and around the strait since the start of October, according to reports. The narrow waterway carries a large share of the world's seaborne crude, so any disruption is watched closely in import-dependent countries such as India.
For Indian consumers, the main concern is fuel prices. Oil has been volatile all year amid the conflict involving Iran, and higher crude costs feed into transport, inflation and the country's import bill.
