Bollywood's record year: Dhurandhar: The Revenge drives Rs 2,000 crore half-year
Hindi cinema posted its highest-ever first-half collections, and one film earned nearly half of it.
Hindi films collected an estimated Rs 2,075 crore nett in the first half of 2026, the highest ever in nominal terms, according to trade estimates compiled by Pinkvilla. The first half of 2025 had ended just under Rs 1,800 crore.
Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, accounted for nearly half of the total and is now described by the trade as the highest-grossing Hindi film ever in India.
Border 2 and Bhooth Bangla were among the other hits, while several big releases failed to recover their costs. Trade analysts say the year shows audiences will turn up in large numbers for event films, but are more selective than ever.
