AI models now help redesign quantum circuits, researchers report
New results show AI systems finding more efficient circuit designs than previously published methods.
Anthropic says its Claude model redesigned quantum circuits for eight computational tasks and beat previously published algorithms. In one case, a redesigned decoder used roughly 12 times fewer gates than an earlier construction.
Fewer gates matter because today's quantum computers are error-prone, and every extra operation adds noise. Researchers say AI-assisted design could speed up progress toward useful quantum machines, though independent verification will be key.
